Dean Elmer Pape

Dean F, 62, of West Union, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, in his home after a long illness with cancer.

A double funeral service for Dean Pape and his brother-in-law, John Moen, was held Friday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, lowa with the Rev. David R. Nelson officiating.

Pallbearers were Zach Ruroden, Pete Pape, Allen Pape, Jr., Michael Darnell, Jeff Koch and Steve Meyer.

Honorary pallbearers were John Vagts, Les Baade, Bruce Bemis, Greg Vagts, Jay Larson, Skip Ney, Dale Mork, Lyle Johansen, Duane Mork and Howard Pape.

Interment was in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Dean Elmer Pape was born Jan. 3, 1937, in West Union, la., the son of Elmer and Stella (Trapp) Pape. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado.

He graduated from West Union High School in 1955 and served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.

On Feb. 12, 1971, his married Lorraine Ruroden at St. Peter Lutheran Church. To this union one son was born.

Dean and Lorraine farmed in the West Union area until three years ago. He was employed by Dura Corporation of West Union.

Dean enjoyed reading, being with friends, discussing politics, playing cards, hunting, golfing and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, two sons, one daughter, and three grandchildren: Deano and Vickie Pape of Rippon, Wis.; Kevin and Dorothy Fonley and Justin and Devin of Cresco; and Roxanne and Joe Helgeson of OSSIAN; and Tanner Haberger.

Also surviving are two brothers, Dale and Bonnie Pape of West Union; Allen and Wanda Pape of West Union; and four sisters, Virgie and Henry Fels of West Union; Marge and Wayne Chamberlain of Luana; and Elma and Jim Darnell of FORT ATKINSON.

Dean Pape was preceded in death by his parents; and a stepson, Brett Fonley.
