Alice Armstrong

Alice Armstrong, 89, of Lisbon and formerly of Stanwood, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at the Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon after a short illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m., at the Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, with the Rev. Anita Johnson officiating.

A private burial will be held at a later date. The Fry Funeral Home of Tipton is handling arrangements.

Alice (Jamison) Armstrong was born June 19, 1910, at Olin, the daughter of Harry and Frances (Fisher) Jamison.

She was a 1928 graduate of Springville High School. On Feb. 26, 1930, Alice was married to Samuel Carleton Armstrong in Mechanicsville.

She was a homemaker and ran Ma's Cafe in Stanwood from March of 1960-October of 1964. There was also a family business called Armstrong Weaving.

Alice was a member of Stanwood Union Church. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing and camping.

Survivors include three daughters, Donalee and Verlon Weaver of Tipton, Ruthetta and Mayson Mitchell of DECORAH, and Carla Kay Bopp and special friend Bill Erickson of Mackay, Idaho; two sisters, Mary O'Connor of Springville and Amy Frasher of Anamosa; one sister-in-law, Esther Jamison of Mechanicsville; one brother, Marion Jamison of Mechanicsville; four grandchildren, Randall Weaver, Becky Weaver Klein, Galynn Mitchell and Greg Mitchell; 10 great grandchildren, Jessica, Mallory and Laura Weaver, Cody and Glendon Klein, Nichole, Travis, Ashley, Teresa and Allison Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

Alice Armstrong was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Frances (Fisher) Jamison; her husband, Samuel Armstrong; one daughter, Evelyn Armstrong; and one brother, Noel Jamison.
