Lloyd Hutton Sharp

Lloyd Hutton Sharp, 92, of Decorah, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, the Aase Haugen Home of complications from cancer.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Decorah, with the Rev. James Dale officiating. The Rev. Kristen Kvamme will be the organist. The congregation will sing "In the Garden," "How Great Thou Art" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand."

Casket bearers will be Brian Cutsforth, Patrick Cutsforth, Sean Cutsforth, Andrew Sharp, John Sharp and Merlin Sharp.

Burial will be held at the Russell Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services Tuesday.

Lloyd was born Jan. 19, 1907, in Canoe Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Charles Hutton and Stella Mary (Headington) Sharp. He attended the rural schools of Canoe and Bluffton Townships of Winneshiek County.

On Dec. 8,1931, he married Hazel Quandahl at Decorah.

Lloyd helped area farmers and was a sheep shearer for many years, which he really enjoyed. He also worked at Wapsie Produce, was a concrete mason for several area contractors and later self-employed as a cement mason contractor.

Then he was on the custodial staff at Luther College, and also on its security staff.

Lloyd enjoyed his family, reading, hunting, fishing, gardening and playing cards.

Survivor's include his wife, Hazel; five children, La Vonne Sharp of Chicago, Caryl Sharp of Spring Valley, Minn., Merlin Sharp of Fort Atkinson, Phyllis and James Cutsforth Jr. of Ottumwa, and John and JoAnn Sharp of Decorah; six grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, Brian James Cutsforth and wife Keitha and daughter Emily Irene of Ottumwa, Patrick John Cutsforth of Iowa City, Sean Michael Cutsforth of Ottumwa, Heather Ann Sharp and daughter Kellie Ann of Decorah, Andrew Hutton Sharp of Decorah and Lauren Marie Sharp of Decorah.

Lloyd Sharp was preceded in death by his parents; three children, Merle Hutton, Cheryl Rae and an infant son; one brother, Kenneth; and two sisters, Marian Quandahl and Myrtle Vine.
