Constance Jacobson

Constance Jacobson, 82, of Northfield, Minn, died of heart failure Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000 at Links Care Center in Northfield, where she had been a resident since March 1999.

Funeral services were held at the Benson Funeral Home on Monday, Dec 11.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. at North Washington Prairie Cemetery near Decorah.

Constance Jacobson was born August 3, 1918, to Carl and Minnie (Moen) Jacobson, both descendants of distinguished pioneer families, in Decorah.

She attended the Red Oak School, graduated from Decorah High School and from the University of Northern Iowa. For many years she served as an elementary school teacher in the Minneapolis public schools until poor health forced her into early retirement. She then moved to Northfield to share a home with her sister, Charlotte, and her brother, Eugene.

In 1977 the three siblings and another brother, Kenning, gave the historic family farm to Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum. Today the farm serves as a "living museum" of 19th and early 20th century agriculture as well as a setting for the teaching of weaving and other crafts.

Constance Jacobson was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Charlotte, and her brothers, Abraham, Vincent, Henning and Eugene. There are no immediate survivors.
