Donald Gates

Donald Gates, 80, of Cresco, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, of natural causes at the Regional Health Center of Howard County.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 23, at 1:30 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, with burial at the Fremont Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cresco.

Visitation will be held at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco Thursday, June 22, from 5-7 p.m., and one hour before services Friday, at the church.

Donald was born Sept. 8, 1919, at Kendallville, the son of George and Vera (Reid) Gates. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Anderson Nov. 10, 1937 at DECORAH.

They farmed in WINNESHIEK County for 32 years before retiring and moving to Cresco. After retirement, Donald worked for the Upper Iowa Ranch for two years, drove school bus for nine and a half years, and served with his wife, Jeanette, as custodians for Immanuel Lutheran Church for eight years.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette of Cresco; three sons, Richard of Cresco, David of Lafayette, Colo., and Larry of Lime Springs; one daughter, Donna Foote of Lime Springs; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Gates, Jr. of Elkader.

Donald Gates was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Frank.
