Arthur Dohse

Arthur C.H. "Art" Dohse, 83, of Oelwein, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a short illness due to heart complications.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19, at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. T. Edwards Breed officiating.

Burial was at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein. The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Arthur was born June 30, 1916, in Smithfield Township, rural Fayette County, the son of Albert and Alyina (Heeren) Dohse.

He graduated from Stanley High School in 1934.

Art married Bertha Gosse Oct. 2, 1938, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein.

He was a longtime Maynard and Oelwein area resident, where he farmed from 1934-72. Art also worked part-time on a farm after 1972.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, was an avid Chicago Cub and Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan, and also enjoyed following his grandson's school activities.

Art's hobbies included lawn, garden and card playing.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha of Oelwein; one son, James and Beverly Dohse of DECORAH; one grandson Daniel and Marit Dohse of
Chaska, Minn.; and one sister, Eleanor Peterson of Sun City, Ariz.

Arthur Dohse was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Dohse.
