Thomas Oliver Monroe
Thomas O. Monroe, 69, of Breezy Point, Minn., died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m., in the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, Minn., with the Rev. Dennis Hoffman officiating.
Casket bearers were Jerry Seaton, Glen Anderson, Jeff Pelzel, Stan Davis, Mark Davis and Wayne Walter.
Honorary bearers were Jordan Graham, Brandon Ruff, Lloyd Lindquist, Gene Tallant, Bill Graham and Don Grundmeyer.
Burial was at the Pinewood Cemetery. The Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake handled arrangements.
Thomas Oliver Monroe was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Waukon, son of Lloyd and Jeanette (Curtin) Monroe. He grew up and attended school in Waukon, graduating from Waukon High School.
Following high school, Thomas entered the United States Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. St. Paul. Upon his honorable discharge, Thomas returned to Iowa where he worked at the Nordness Co-op Creamery. He later managed the creamery when his father retired.
In December of 1965 he moved to Sleepy Eye, Minn., and began working as a sales representative for Anderson Chemical Co. He also served on the Sleepy Eye School Board.
Thomas was united in marriage to Mona Halvorson May 15, 1981, in St. Paul.
He retired from Anderson Chemical in 1988 and moved to Crosslake, Minn. They then lived in Arizona, Florida for short periods of time, and then moved to their current residence in Breezy Point.
Thomas was a member of the Crosslake American Legion and the Whitefish Golf Club. He enjoyed his family, golfing, fishing and watching football.
He had currently been a school bus driver for the Pequot Lakes School District in Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife, Mona; two daughters. Lisa Witzke of DECORAH and Tina (Jim) Graham of Woodbury, Minn.; two sons, John (Sandra and Brandon Ruff) Monroe of Brainerd, Minn., and William Monroe of Pine River, Minn.; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Jared Graham.
Thomas was preceded in his death by his parents and a son, Clark Thomas, who died in 1963.
