Elmer Earl McMartin

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Castalia, for Elmer E. McMartin, 91, who died Saturday, June 10 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville. The Rev. Dick Harberts officiated.

Born May 21, 1887 in Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county, Iowa, Elmer Earl was the son of Daniel and Julia Brush McMartin.

Elmer received his education in the rural schools. One of nine children, he spent his entire life on the family farm except for the time he served in the military service. During World War I he served 14 months in France. The past five years he had lived at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, Willis, Frank and Ivan; five sisters, Effie, Mrs. Wilbur (Martha) Dresser; Mrs. George (Elsie) Kobriger, Jessie and Edith.

Elmer had served as Director of the Bloomfield Township Cemetery Association; Postville Farmers Cooperative Society and was a charter member of county and township historical societies; belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Postville; Eastern star; and was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Postville and World War I Barracks, Decorah.

Interment was in Bloomfield Cemetery, Castalia.
