Ruth Meyer
Ruth (Mrs. Harold) Meyer, 86, of Charles City, died Sunday, April 18 1999, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City, following an extended illness of colon cancer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. The Revs. Dennis Niezwaag and Mark Anderson officiated.
Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. The Fullerton Hage Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Ruth (Mannetter) Meyer was born Nov. 14, 1912, in Hubbard, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Bekemeier) Mannetter. When Ruth was a teenager, she moved with her family to Charles City.
On June 1, 1932, at the St. John Lutheran parsonage, she was united in marriage to Harold H. Meyer, and they lived in Charles City. Harold died Jan. 16, 1989.
For many years, Ruth was a babysitter for numerous children. She was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, the WELCA, the Dorcas Circle and the Christian Ones group of the church. She had also taught Sunday School at St. John for nearly 30 years.
Ruth was a member of the Charles City Women's Club, the Charles City Area Senior Citizens, the Pythian Sisters Temple No. 84 of Charles City, the FCNB Heritage Club and the knitting club. She also participated in volunteer work for the Hospice of North Iowa, Charles City Satellite.
Survivors include two children, Mrs. Betty Drew of DECORAH, and Darwyn and Sue Meyer of Chico, Calif.; two sisters, Laura and Wilbur Henry of Floyd, and Mrs. Jean Wise of Pasadena, Calif.; two brothers, Eric Mannetter of Marin County, Calif., and Agan "Dutch" and Barbara Mannetter of Charles City; eight grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild.
Ruth Meyer was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her son-in-law, Richard Drew; three brothers, Zeke, Edmund and O. Mannetter; and three sisters, Helga Snowmeyer, Edith Owens and Helen Mannetter.
