Funeral services for Carl Marsh were held Thursday, October 10, 1996 at 11 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville. The Rev. Gary Catterson officiated. John O. Falb provided the special music, accompanied by Marian Schutte. Beverly Bacon was the organist. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangement. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Carl Oliver Marsh was born May 26, 1913 at Brownsville, Nebraska. He was the son of Cassius Henry and Rhetta Jane (Hairgrove) Marsh. Carl died Monday evening, October 7, 1996 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville. He was 83.

Carl attended the grade school in Brownsville and the high school in Peru, Nebraska and was graduated from high school in Curtis, Nebraska where his sister was a teacher. He attended Iowa State College majoring in economics.

On June 29, 1935 he was married to Margaret Backhaus at Garnavillo. They had three sons, Richard, Donald and Leland. Carl and Margaret enjoyed traveling and visited many countries throughout the world. Carl was also interested in forestry and enjoyed writing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Scott Marsh and a granddaughter, Heidi Marsh.

Carl is survived by his wife, Margaret, three sons, Richard of Modesto, Calif., Donald and his wife, Patricia, of Littleton, Colo and Leland and his wife, Sandra, of Castalia. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Stephanie Taylor and her husband, Scott, Landon Marsh, Marissa Marsh, Eric Marsh, Zachary Marsh and Michael Marsh; two great grandchildren, Tommy and Douglas Taylor and a sister, Marion Marsh Brown of Omaha, Neb.

Carl was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He served several terms on the Board of Education for the Postville Community Schools and was chairman of the Board of Directors of the Citizens State Bank in Postville.

Casket bearers were Paul Brown, Clay Kennedy, Marvin Chevalier, Marvin Kleve, Neal Sheeley and Bill Armentrout.
