Clifford Eugene Wangsness

Clifford Eugene Wangsness, 88, of Calmar, died at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah after a short illness Thursday, March 18,
1999.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 22, at 11 a.m., at Calmar Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Gunderson officiating.

Alan Sensor was the organist. Soloist Daryl Luzum sang "Just a Closer Walk with Thee." The congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Greg Drew, Alex Fjelstad, Bruce Gilbert, Jim Hillesland, Mike Hillesland, Eric Wangsness, Troy Wangsness, Kent Wangsness and Steve Wangsness.

Burial was at the church cemetery. The French Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Clifford was born May 27, 1910, in Springfield Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Hank and Hannah (Jorgenson) Wangsness.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Calmar Lutheran Church, where he
was a member for over 88 years. He attended Calmar schools.

On April 2, 1930, he was united in marriage with Mabel Hovden.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel; four children, Colleen and Joseph Fjelstad of St. Louis Park, Minn., Goldie Mae and Harvey Hillesland of Calmar, Darryl and Carol Wangsness of Anoka, Minn., and Charles and Lorrie Wangsness of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and 11 grandchildren, Sandra and Bruce Gilbert of Plymouth, Minn., Alex and Susan Fjelstad of Minnetonka, Minn., James and Susan Hillesland of Lisle, IL., Barbara and Greg Drew of Manchester, Mike, and Anne Hillesland of Elkader, Erik and Kari Wangsness of Denver, Colo., Steve Wangsness of Minneapolis, Minn., Kent and Molly Wangsness of St. Paul, Minn., Anne Wangsness of Eden Prairie, Minn., Troy and Janel Wangsness of Chandler, Ariz., and Tracy Wangsness of Chandler, Ariz.

There also are 17 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Ervin and Lorraine Wangsness of Calmar, and Ted and Olga Wangsness of Decorah; one sister, Elva Roney of Rochester, Minn.; and sister-in-law Gladys Usgaard of Decorah.

Clifford Wangsness was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Beatrice) Estrem of Decorah, and Mrs. Art (Vi) Blegen of Decorah; and a grandson, Kenny Humpal of Calmar.
