Robert Adam Goettelman

Robert Adam Goettelman, 80, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1, at 2 p.m., at the Calmar Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Gunderson officiating.

Alan Sensor was the organist. Linda Gjere was the soloist, singing "Whispering Hope," "A Closer Walk with Thee" and "In the Garden." The congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Arlan Severide, Randal Poshusta, David Goettelman, Donald Goettelman, Jeff Busta, Roger Winter, Roger Severide and Herman Roegge.

Interment was at Calmar Lutheran Cemetery. The French Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Robert Adam Goettelman was born near Decorah Feb. 9, 1919, the son of Charles and Mabel (Bolger) Goettelman. He was baptized at home and confirmed in Decorah.

On Oct. 15, 1941, he was united in marriage to Frieda Huhe, at the home of her parents. They were blessed with three sons.

Bob and Frieda owned the Spillville Locker for 18 years, After moving to Calmar, Bob worked at the Meyer Grocery Store and at the Aase Haugen Home for over 4 years.

Bob was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 44 years. AA was a strong influence in his and his family's lives.

Hobbies included many hours playing cards with his wife, family and friends, and Bob always enjoyed sharing a joke.

Survivors include his wife, Frieda; two sons, Dale and Leanne Goettelman of Spillville, and Gary and Debbie Goettelman of Spring Valley, Minn.; three grandchildren, Cindy, Corie and Adam; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Virgil and Rosella Goettelman of Decorah; and one sister, Jane Severide of Cedar Rapids.

Robert Goettelman was preceded in death by a son, Wayne in 1965; his parents in 1968; and a brother, Floyd, in 1998.
