HELEN ERICKSON, 81, of rural Decorah, died Saturday, April 3, 1999 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 7 at 11 a.m. in Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway where the family will be present from 10 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. in Madison Lutheran Cemetery on Wednesday. Friends may call at French & Balik in Decorah today (Tuesday) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Survivors include three daughters: Jean Haugen of Verona, Mo.; Marilyn
Ellestad of Spring Grove, Minn.; and Linda Richards of Sundance, Wyo.; one son, Roger Erickson of Gilbert, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one brother,Glen Haga of Decorah

Helen Erickson

Helen Martha Erickson, died April 3, 1999, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. She was 81.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. Pastor Phillip Olson officiated.

Helen Martha Erickson was born March 31, 1918, on Easter Sunday in Madison Township, the daughter of Carl and Ida (Bakken) Haga. She was baptized into the Christian faith on April 29, 1918, at Madison Lutheran Church and later confirmed her faith on May 21, 1933, also at Madison.

On June 10, 1937, she married Ingvald Erickson in Madison Township. She was a lifelong member of Madison Lutheran where she was active in ELCW and her Circle.

Helen was a Luther College employee for 28 years. She especially loved to quilt, sew and do other crafts. She loved nature and to work in her garden and care for her flowers. She was always concerned about her church, her neighbors and her friends. She loved her family and was always concerned about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helen is survived by Jean Haugen of Verona, Mo.; Marilyn Ellestad and her husband, Lorimer of Spring Grove, Minn.; Linda Richards and her husband, Alan of Sundance, Wyo.; and Roger Erickson and his wife, Mary of Gilbert, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; Kristie and her husband, George Biange; Craig Haugen and his wife, Brenda; Paula and her husband, Tom Johnson; Brian Ellestad and his wife, Andrea; Travis Richards and Amber Richards; Michael Erickson; Jennifer Boyle and her husband, John; and Sarah Arrington and her husband, John. Eleven great-grandchildren; Jacob, JoHannah and Erick Biang; Cole and Dane Haugen; Austin, Andrew and Lacy Johnson; Brandon and Weston Ojala; and Paige Arrington; and one brother, Glenn Haga.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son-in-law, Clifford Haugen.

Pallbearers were grandsons of Helen. Honorary pallbearers were Dean Larson, Dennis Larson, Lyle Tollefson, Gary Bakken, Carlton Bakken, Eric Bakken, Keith Johnson and Carlton Kjos.

Committal was in Madison Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were by French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah.
