Phyllis Kvamme
Phyllis Kvamme, 65, of Decorah, died Monday, June 18, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church, with Rev. Susan Debner officiating.
Organist is Laura Palmer, and the congregational hymns include "How Great Thou Art," "Just As I Am" and "What A Friend We Have in Jesus."
Casket bearers are Tom Drogseth, Dave Kruger, Elizabeth Drogseth, Justin, Drogseth, Kyle Halse and Kristen Halse.
Burial will be in Glenwood East Cemetery, and Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.
Phyllis Evelyn Kvamme was born Nov. 11, 1935 in Lewis, Iowa. She lived with Iver and Hilde Spilde, was raised and later adopted by George and Conine Hexom.
She was baptized in March 1946 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church and confirmed April 23, 1950 at Glenwood Lutheran Church.
Phyllis Kvamme graduated from Waukon High School in for two years. (sic)
She married Raymond Kvamme Dec. 20, 1953 at Glenwood Lutheran Church.
After their marriage, the couple farmed in Glenwood Township and raised their family of four daughters.
Phyllis Kvamme later worked part-time at Smith Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church, where, she was active in Circle and Ladies Aid, holding various office positions. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School.
Phyllis Kvamme was very active in the Republican Party, and was a 4-H leader. She was also an author, having published a book of poetry.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Kvamme; four daughters: Cynthia Kvamme of Carbondale, IL.; Carolyn and Tom Drogseth of Burnsville, Minn.; Melanie Wille of Rocklin, Calif., and Pamela and Dave Kruger of Waukon; nine grandchildren; 11 brothers and sisters and a sister-in-law, June and Robert Soland of Sigourney, Iowa.
Phyllis Evelyn Kvamme was preceded in death by George and Conine Hexom and one brother.
