Gerda Alice Joyce (Ehrie) Teslow, 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Susan Debner officiating.

Interment is in Glenwood East Cemetery. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah handled arrangements.

Pallbearers were William Downing, Roy W. Prestsater, Herbert Ehrie, David C. Sorum, James O. Ehrie and Brian Westby.

Congregational hymns included "What a Friend We Have In Jesus," "Children of the Heavenly Father," "Oh, Come, Oh, Come, Emmanuel," and "How Great Thou Art." Organist was Alan Sensor. Soloist lona Crawford sang "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "Beautiful Savior".

Gerda Ehrie was born Feb. 20, 1921 in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County, to Edgar Arthur and Sophia Angeline (Carlsborg) Ehrie. She was baptized in March, 1921 and confirmed May 19, 1935, both at Glenwood Lutheran Church.

She attended the Lee School in Glenwood Township, then graduated from Decorah High School in 1939.

Oh June 21, 1939, she married Carl Ingeman Teslow at the Glenwood Lutheran Church Parsonage. They had five children.

Following their marriage, the couple lived in various places in Winneshiek and Allamakee Counties, then bought a Glenwood Township farm in 1953.

She worked at the Winneshiek County Care Facility for several years, as a cook, until retiring in 1986.

She was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church, where she was very active, serving as a Sunday School teacher and in the Ladies Aid.

She enjoyed gardening, quilting, doll collecting and restoration, dancing, playing cards, visiting relatives and traveling to horseshoe tournaments.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Ingeman Teslow of Decorah; five children, Elaine Meyer and husband Kenneth, of Fairfax, Iowa; Judy Sersland and husband Dean, of Casper, Wyo.; Gene Teslow and wife Roselyn, of Decorah; Giles Teslow and wife Jill, of Decorah; Dawn Bearson and husband Scott, of Lanesboro, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, Pam Meyer Pruett and husband Dan, of Longmont, Colo.; David Meyer, of Cedar Rapids; Jon Meyer, of Longmont, Colo.; Alicia Meyer, of Longmont, Colo.; Valerie Sersland Dewald and husband Brian, of Casper, Wyo.; Dustin Sersland, of Sheridan, Wyo; Hilary Teslow, of Decorah; Jergen Teslow, of Decorah; John Teslow, of Decorah; Juel Teslow, of Decorah; Jillian Teslow, of Decorah; Amanda Bearson, of Lanesboro, Minn.; Johanna Bearson, of Lanesboro, Minn.; two greatgrandchildren, Willie and Emma Pruett, of Longmont, Colo.; and one brother, Orin Ehrie and wife Helen, of Decorah.

Gerda Alice Joyce (Ehrie) Teslow was preceded in death by her parents.
