Hildor Olson

Hildor Olson, 93, of Decorah, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000 at Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home after a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec.19 at 11 a.m. at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Rev. Kim W. Smith officiating.

Pallbearers are Kent Bishop, Mike Meyer, Mark Olson, Michael Olson, Reginald D. Olson and John Sacquitne.

Organist is Paul Bruvold. The congregation will sing "Silent Night, Holy Night," "Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel," and "Beneath the Cross of Jesus."

Burial will be at Washington Prairie Cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handling arrangements.

Hildor Marvin Olson was born on January 2, 1907, to Hilman and Mina (Lovstuen) Olson in Madison, S.D.

He was baptized in 1907, and confirmed on April 30, 1922. He attended rural school near the family farm in Madison.

On Nov. 4, 1933, Hildor Olson married Anna K. Aschim at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in Decorah. The couple had two children.

The family lived in Madison after their marriage, and then moved to Decorah in 1942. They farmed in Frankville Township for many years until their retirement in April 1984, when they moved into Decorah.

They were members of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church.

Hildor Olson was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Elks. He loved to bowl, play cards, and dance, and he and his wife enjoyed traveling.

He had been a resident of Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home since August 29, 2000.

Survivors include two children, Curtis and Ann Olson of St. George, Utah and Carol Van Vliet of Decorah.

Also surviving are four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren: Laurie and Michael Newmark and Kristin of Reno, Nev; Greg Olson of Portland, Ore.; Todd TeKippe of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and Julie and Chris Delgado and Nicholas, Joshua and Austin of Corona, Calif., as well as a sister, Bernice Hilde of Madison.

Hildor Melvin Olson was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Martin, Conrad; Clarence and Leonard, and three sisters, Myrtle Williams, Ann Dredson and Mildred Nelson.
