Lillian E. Johnson

Lillian E. Johnson, 80, of Decorah, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8, at 2 p.m., at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kim Smith officiating.

Paul Bruvold was the organist. Soloist Don DiLaura sang "How Great Thou Art." Congregational hymns were "Children of the Heavenly Father," "The Lord's Prayer" and "Lead On, O King Eternal."

Casket bearers were Darin Johnson, Devin Johnson, Bruce Sersland, John Paul Austad, Gary Teslow and Troy Johnson.

Interment was at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Lillian (Tollefson) Johnson was born Feb. 8, 1920, the daughter of Herbert and Alma (Halverson) Tollefson. She was baptized March 21, 1920.

She attended rural schools in Winneshiek County and graduated from Decorah High School in 1940.

Lillian married Vernon L. Johnson Dec. 5, 1941, at the North Washington Prairie Church. She was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, where she was active in church circles and WELCA.

Lillian was a homemaker, worked at Decorah High School and Darling Drug Store in Decorah. She also delivered meals on wheels.

She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, softball games, and watching her grandchildren play sports.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter, Davis and Shirley Johnson of Decorah, Dennis and Linda Johnson of Eldridge, Mark Johnson of Decorah, and Wanda and Ron Hemesath of Decorah; six grandchildren, Darin and Heather Johnson, Devin and Carmen Johnson, Troy Johnson, Kelly Johnson, Jamie Hemesath and Kayla Hemesath; two sisters, Edna Grace Austad of Cedar Rapids and Viola Teslow of Decorah.

Lillian Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon, who died in 1979; two sisters, Helen and Pearl; and one brother, Walter.
