Robert Henry Hemesath

Robert Henry Hemesath, 72, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.

The funeral mass was held Saturday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas. The celebrant was the Rev. Raphael Ludwig.

Con-celebrants were the Rev. Msgr. Leander Reicks and the Rev. Simon.

The music ministry was presented by soloists Jodi Kriener and Valerie Bodensteiner, the St. Luke's choir, and Lorraine Kuennen on organist.
Acolytes were Steve, Paul and Tom Langreck. David Hemesath was the lector. Ushers were Ken Kuennen, Del Schmitt and Gerald Schmitt.

There were representatives of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Luke's Rosary Society.

Casket bearers were Tom Bodensteiner, Rodney Ollendieck, Jeffery Hemesath, Dennis Hemesath, Stephen Hageman, Wayne Hemesath, Clyde Kuennen and Ken Hemesath.

Interment was at St. Luke's Cemetery. The Burnham-Wood Funeral Home of West Union handled arrangements.

Robert was born July 7, 1926, near Ossian, the son of Frank and Bertha (Schiedelrnental) Hemesath. He attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian.

On May 9, Robert was united in marriage with Germaine Bodensteiner in St. Lucas. To this union were born two daughters.

The family farmed until 1960. Then, because of injuries, Robert quit farming and became a feed salesman until retiring in 991. The couple remained on the farm until recently, when they moved to Ossian.

Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus; a trustee for Auburn Township in Fayette County; a board member of Palmar Memorial Hospital in West Union; and a member of St. Luke's Rosary Society.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and reading.

Survivors include his wife, Germaine; two daughters, Diane and Richard Mohs of Ossian and Joyce and Jerry Cerny of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; three brothers, Francis of Ossian, Mark of Rochester, Minn, and Jim of Chicago; three sisters, Lucy Hageman of Ossian, Donna Kuennen of Cresco and Judy Ollendieck of Ridgeway; two sisters-in-law, Alvina Hemesath Murray of Lawler and Alma Hemesath of Ossian; and brother-in-law Eugene Bodensteiner of St. Lucas.

Robert Hemesath was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one sister; and one brother-in-law.
