Clara Louise Stevens

Clara Louise Stevens, 100, of Decorah, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at the Aase Haugen Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 5, at 1:30 p.m., at Glenwood Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Phillip Olson and Associate in Ministry Ginny Olson officiating.

Martha Olson was the organist. The Rev. Olson sang "The Lord's Prayer." Congregational hymns were "Just As I Am," "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful" and "I Know of A Sleep."

Casket bearers were Jacob Bolson, Lynn Bolson, Darcy Rosendahl, Dustin Rosendahl, Dave Thompson and Justin Thompson.

Burial was at the Glenwood South Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Clara (Rognlien) Stevens was born Nov. 26, 1898, in Decorah Township of Winneshiek County, the daughter of Nels and Marie (Johnson) Rognlien.

She was baptized and confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. She attended the rural schools of Winneshiek County.

Clara was united in marriage with Arthur J. Stevens June 30, 1928, in Waukegan, Illinois. To this union two children were born, Arlan Raymond Stevens and Carol Ann Rosendahl.

Clara was a maid and housewife. She and her husband farmed in Glenwood Township for many years, from 1937 to 1975, when they moved to Decorah.

Clara was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church and an honorary member of its Ladies Aid.

She had been a resident at the Aase Haugen Home since Nov. 18, 1997.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Rosendahl of Ridgeway; one brother, Elmer Rognlien of Decorah; one sister, Ella Nicholson of Decorah; four grandchildren, Diane Thompson of Clarion, Darcy Scott Rosendahl of Ridgeway, Melissa Bolson of Decorah and Vickie Stevens of La Crescent, Minn.; and nine great-grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Thompson, Dustin and Caleb Rosendahl, Jacob, and Alex Bolson, and Michelle, Joshua and Whitney Xiong.

Clara Stevens was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Stevens, who died Sept. 2, 1989; one son, Arlan Stevens, who died Feb. 12, 1986; one son-in-law, Gordon Rosendahl, who died Nov. 29, 1984; four sisters, Annie Rognlien, Nellie Marlow, Hilda Rovang and Alma in infancy; and two brothers, Henry Rognlien and Carl Rognlien as a young child.
