Vernelle Van Dresar

Vernelle Van Dresar, 61, of Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at her home following a long illness.

Funeral services were Held Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at 1:30 p.m., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, with the Revs. Mary Kenosian, Mark Pell and Terry Bradshaw officiating.

Burial was at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. The Reiff Funeral Home in Independence handled arrangements.

Vernelle J. (Tollefson) Van Dresar was born Nov. 14, 1937, in Decorah, the daughter of Leo and Emma (Skaim) Tollefson. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1955.

On May 1, 1957, she was united in marriage with Charles E. Van Dresar in Rome, N.Y. The couple lived in New York and Waterloo before moving to Independence in 1974.

Vernelle was employed with the KenTec Co. for 10 years prior to retirement.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Van Dresar of Independence; three daughters, Deborah Millard of Cedar Rapids, Sandra Drees of LaPorte City and Michelle Brockmeyer of Cedar Rapids; one son, Michael Van Dresar of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her parents, Leo and Emma Tollefson of Decorah; six sisters, Lucille Smock of Decorah, Elaine Wanless of Cherokee, Alaska, Sandra Langfitt of Cedar Rapids, Darlene Stoen of Decorah, and Ardyce Wolrab and Julie Lubahn, both of Cedar Rapids; and three brothers, Leonel Tollefson of State Center, and Jimmy Tollefson and David Tollefson, both of Decorah.

Vernelle Van Dresar was preceded in death by two brothers, Benny and Teddy Tollefson.
