Anna Genevieve Estrem

Anna Estrem, 94, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Aase Haugen Home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m., at Springfield Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Gundersen officiating.

A eulogy will be given by John Flaherty.

Lorraine Meyer will be the organist. Soloist Patty Lien will sing "Blest Are They." The congregation will sing "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."

Pallbearers are Curtis Lien, Jack Grimes, David Lien, Alden Lien, Harold Lien, Bob Lien and Ray Lien.

Interment will be at the Springfield Lutheran Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Anna Genevieve (Lien) Estrem was born June 29, 1905, in Springfield Township in Winneshiek County, the daughter of Christofer G. and Christine (Gullickson) Lien. She was baptized July 30, 1905, and confirmed Oct. 19, 1919, both at Springfield Lutheran Church.

She attended rural schools in Springfield Township and was a nurse's aide at Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah for 17 years.

On Dec. 27, 1941, she married Mayhard H. Estrem at the Springfield Lutheran Church Parsonage.

She and Mayhard farmed in Decorah Township.

Anna was the church organist at Springfield Lutheran for many years, and was active in the WELCA.

She was loved by nieces and nephews, their children and her many friends.

In April, 1997, Gladys moved to Aase Haugen Home.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Anna Estrem was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mayhard, who died Oct. 24, 1989; four brothers, Carl Lien, Elmer Lien, Gullick Lien and Clifford Lien; and one sister, Beatrice Graves.
