Bjarne S. Roed

Bjarne S. Roed, 85, of Decorah and formerly of Postville, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 1:30 p.m., at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility, Freeport, with the Rev. Wayne Wasta officiating.

Casket bearers will be Eddie Roed, Vernon Vine, David Halverson, Roger Roed, Charles Vine and Jerry Thompson.

Ruth Ellingson will be the pianist and Arleen Young the vocalist. Music will include "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art."

Burial will be at the Postville Cemetery. The French & Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Friends may call Wednesday after 12:30 p.m., at the care facility.

Bjarne Sigurd Roed was born May 11, 1915, in Canoe Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Edward and Mathilda (Korson Johnson) Roed. He was baptized and confirmed at Hauge Lutheran Church.

He attended country school and farmed in Canoe Township. Bjarne moved to Postville; where he was a carpenter and roofer. He also worked for the Postville Cemetery for seven years. Bjarne loved gardening.

Survivors include his sister, Olga and Orlando Halverson of Decorah, and 14 nieces and nephews.

Bjarne Roed was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Knute, Harry and Edwin Roed; and two sisters, Hilma Roed and Harriett Ackerman.
