Rev. Arthur William Kleve
Rev. Arthur Kleve, 70, of Mason City and formerly of Calmar, died Thursday, July 5, 2001 at the Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque following a long illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial service was held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar Monday, July 9 at 11 a.m. with Msgr. James Barta officiating.
Homilist was Rev. Herbert Tegeler, and music was provided by organist Alan Sensor and the St. Aloysius Choir, who performed "How Great Thou Art", "Be Not Afraid" and "Peace is Flowing Like a River."
Casket bearers were Dan Lugar, Matt Lugar, Jenny Ruinkin, Theresa Kleve, Julie Schildmeyer, Tim Lugar, Steve Lugar, Rodney Kleve, Becky Kephart and Kathy Watson.
Interment was in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Calmar, and French Funeral Home of Calmar handled arrangements.
Rev. Arthur William Kleve was born Feb. 19, 1931, the son of Raymond and Julia (Wenthold) Kleve in Festina.
He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School in Calmar and entered the Loras Academy and then St. Bernard's Seminary, all in Dubuque.
He was ordained Feb. 2,1957.
Rev. Arthur Kleve's first parish was St. Matthews, Cedar Rapids.
He taught at Loras College and served as Chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque and St. Francis Xavier and Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, St. Joseph's in Elkader, Immaculate Conception at North Buena Vista and taught at Holy Cross, St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville and taught at Beckman High School, the Men's Reformatory in Anamosa, St. Mark's Church in Iowa Falls and St. Wenceslaus Church in Cedar Rapids.
He retired in 1998, and in 1999 moved to Mason City to be near his family, due to his declining health.
He lived at the Willows Assisted Living Facility until two weeks ago when he entered the Stone Hill Nursing Home in Dubuque.
Rev. Arthur Kleve enjoyed traveling around the world, flying airplanes, golfing, fishing and spending time at his cabin near Independence.
He enjoyed spending time on the family farm and he especially enjoyed his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his five brothers and sisters: Jane and Bill Lugar of Mason City; Anita and Charles Gesing of Tulsa, Okla.; Marilyn Kleve of Hiawatha; Melvin and Shirley Kleve of Calmar and Patricia and Jerry Kephart of Lake Mills, Iowa.
Additional survivors include 10 nieces and nephews; eleven great-nieces and nephews; three aunts, Julita Bushman of Festina; Eleanor Houdek of Protivin and Hilda Schmitz of New Hampton and several cousins.
Rev. Arthur William Kleve was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Richard Kleve and one nephew, Bobby Kephart.

Funeral services for Rev. Arthur Kleve of Mason City were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. Monsignor James O. Barta officiated. Interment was in St. Aloysius Catholic Church Cemetery. French Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
