Linus H. Lansing

Linus Lansing, 48, of Council Bluffs and formerly of Ft. Atkinson, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 in Omaha, Neb., of an apparent heart attack.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton, with Rev. Carl Schmitt celebrating the mass.

Lector for the service was Leo Elsbernd. Music was provided by organist Ann Bennett and the St. Mary's Choir. The Offertory gifts were presented by his sisters, Leona Eichenberger and Lois Lantow.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton, with David Hart, Arron Ramirez, Bobby Ramirez, Anthony Ramirez, Jeremy Monroe, Neil Lansing, Gene Elsbernd and Lennie Nolle acting as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were Alan Lansing, Denis Lansing, Mike Elsbernd, Ivan Elsbernd, Roger Nolle and Melvin Elsbernd.

Hugeback Funeral Home of New Hampton handled arrangements.

Linus H. Lansing was born Oct. 13, 1952 in Decorah, the son of Clarence and Darlene (Elsbernd) Lansing.

He attended St. John's Catholic School in Ft. Atkinson until the 6th grade, and graduated from South Winneshiek High School in Calmar in 1971.

Initially he worked in the creameries in Calmar and Decorah, and then in 1974 he joined the United States Marine Corp., where he received the Good Conduct Medal and a Rifle Shooting Badge. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 27, 1978.

Linus worked as a truck driver and mechanic for John Deere in Riverside, Calif. He will be remembered for his collection of John Deere items such as toys, T-shirts and hats.

For the last 14 years he has been associated with Werner Transportation of Omaha where he was an owner-operator, driving cross country. During his time with Werner Transportation he earned several awards for safety and for the millions of miles he drove. He loved traveling through the United States in his truck. Linus was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters in Ft. Atkinson.

Survivors include three sons: Patrick, Travis and Jason Lansing of Calif.; one daughter, Lynette Lansing of Calif.; his parents, Clarence and Darlene Lansing of New Hampton; a grandmother, Ida Lansing of Ossian; two brothers, Lonnie Lansing and Lavern and Kathy Lansing, all of Ft. Atkinson; four sisters: Leona and Darwin Eichenberger of Fredericksburg; Lois and Charles Lantow of Nashua; Laura and Israel Ramirez of Giddings, Texas and Louise Monroe of Ossian.

Linus H. Lansing was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Anton and Rosalia (Timp) Elsbernd and paternal grandfather Henry Lansing.
