Wayne Berdell Anfinson

Wayne Anfinson, 63, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4, at 10 a.m., at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Sumner, with the Rev. Milton Johnson officiating.

Casket bearers were William Burke, Gary Gossling, Ray Nienhaus, Ernie Schmitt, Gary Schmitt and Eugene Winter. Interment was at the Springfield Lutheran Cemetery, rural Calmar. The Burnham-Wood Funeral Home of West Union handled arrangements. Visitation was at the Waucoma Funeral Chapel.

Wayne Berdell Anfinson was born Oct. 2, 1936, at the Fayette County home of his parents, Otto and Thelma (Torkelson) Anfinson.

He was baptized and confirmed at Stavanger Lutheran Church, Ossian. He graduated from West Union High School in 1954.

Following graduation, he worked at Frudden Lumber Co. in Ossian until he entered the United States Army in January of 1959. He served until January of 1961, when he transferred to the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in December of 1964.

Wayne was united in marriage to LaRue Boe on July 13, 1963. They lived in Waucoma since then.

Wayne became the manager of Frudden Lumber Co. in Waucoma in 1963 until 1988, when he became the owner of Waucoma Lumber Co. until the present. He had been looking forward to his upcoming retirement later this month.

Wayne was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church as deacon usher, treasurer, secretary and Sunday School program director. In the Waucoma community, he was involved in the Fire Department, Library Board, City Council, Cemetery Board, and an officer and member of the South Winn Country Club. He always enjoyed emcee duties at the Waucoma Days parade.

Survivors include his wife, LaRue; five daughters, Rhonda Boe of Decorah, Janelle and Dwain Christopherson of Pocahontas, Cheryl and Chris Minor of Des Moines, Lory and Chuck Smith of Atlantic, and Julie and Vaughn Neuzil of Arlington, Texas; two sons, Byron and Heidi Anfinson of South Park, Minn., and Craig and Sherri Anfinson of Des Moines.

There are 21 grandchildren: Meghan, Vanessa, Lindsay, Samuel and Crystal Wenthold; Derek and Morgan Christopherson; Andrew, Ryan and Christian Minor; Abigail, Matthew, Benjamin and Isabel Anfinson; Zachery, Sierra and Evan Smith; Keaton, Marisa and Rachel Anfinson and Haley Neuzil.

Other survivors include four brothers, Ahlert and Alice Anfinson of Decorah; Kermit and LaVonne Anfinson of Ossian, Ernest and Betty Anfinson of West Union, and Kermit and Karlene Anfinson of Ossian.

Wayne Anfinson was preceded in death by his parents.
