William J. Humpal

William J. Humpal, 91, of Calmar, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah following a short illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Robert Hirsch and Rev. Clarence Frana officiating.

Interment is at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Spillville.

Casket bearers were Dale, Tom, Lester, Roger and Robert Humpal, and Adolph Humpal, Jr.

Music was provided by organist Verda Mikota and soloist Harlan Mikota.

William Joseph Humpal was born Oct. 5, 1909, near Conover, Iowa, to James and Christina (Phillips) Humpal. He attended country school.

He married Emma Lentz on Oct. 3, 1933, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, after which they farmed near Conover all their married life. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Survivors include his two brothers, Rudy Humpal and wife Rita of Decorah, and Stanley and Kay Humpal of Decorah; and many nieces and nephews.

William Humpal was preceded in death by his parents; wife Emma in 1995; and three brothers, Adolph, Robert and Paul.
