Alma Mary Frana

Alma Frana, 90, of SpilIville, died Saturday, June 2, 2001 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Elma, Iowa after a short illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial service was held Friday, June 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Church in SpilIville, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Organist was Doris Thompson, and soloist was Dan Silhacek.

Casket bearers were Jerry Klimesh, James Soukup, Marvin Soukup, Emil Frana, Norman Knutson and Steve Kuboushek.

Interment was in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in SpilIville. Balik Funeral Home of SpilIville handled arrangements.

Alma Mary Frana was born May 12, 1911 to Frank and Mary (Zak) Woldan on a farm near Ridgeway.

She attended Winneshiek Co. Country School, and married Henry Frana Oct. 11, 1932 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in SpilIville.

They farmed near Conover for many years, moving to SpilIville in 1979 and then moving to Elma in 1997.

Alma Frana liked gardening, crocheting, quilting, playing cards and reading.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church and St. Wenceslaus Guild, serving as treasurer during the church centennial. She was also a member of Catholic Workman Branch #33 of SpilIville.

Survivors include her son, Adrian and Marjorie Frana of Darien, Illinois; two grandchildren and two sisters, Martha Klimesh of SpilIville and Alice Frey of Lawler.

Alma Mary Frana was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Frana; a son, Henry Frana, Jr.; her parents, Frank and Mary Woldan and two sisters, Frances Frey and Regina Soukup.
