EDITH SWEHLA GRIFFIN, 84, of Spillville and formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis., after a short illness.

A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, July 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. Burial will be at the Bohemian National Cemetery, rural Protivin.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. at the church Tuesday only. The Balik Funeral Home of Spillville is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two brothers, Daniel Swehla of Calmar and James Swehla of Spillville.

Edith Griffin

Edith (Swehla) Griffin, 84, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis., after complications from surgery.

A funeral mass was held Tuesday, July 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with the Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Doris Thompson was the organist. Dan Silhacek was the soloist.

Casket bearers were Karl Clapp, Kevin Russell, Gregory O'Brian, Ted Green, Mark O'Brien and John Swehla. Interment was at the Bohemian National Cemetery, Protivin. The Balik Funeral Home of Spillville handled
arrangements.

Edith (Swehla) Griffin was born Feb. 24, 1916 in Spillville, the daughter of John and Albina (Ondrashek) Swehla. Edith attended school in Spillville.

She married John Griffin in 1954 in Chicago, lived in Robins, Iowa and worked at Collins Radio, starting in 1939. Edith worked there for 39 years as an inspection supervisor.

John died in 1976. The past two years Edith lived at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian.

Survivors include her brothers, Jim and Clara Swehla of Spillville, and Danny and Elsie Swehla of rural Calmar.

Edith Griffin was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, George and Benjamin.
