Alice Norma Bush

Alice Bush, 84, of Decorah, died Monday, May 7, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah following a lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial service was held Wednesday, May 9 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Sister Mary Brian was lector, and organist Karen Holthaus provided music.

Cindy Schissel served as cantor. Musical selections included "Here I am Lord", "On Eagle's Wings", "You Are Mine" and "How Great Thou Art".

Casket bearers were Scott Bush, Bill Cole, Joannan Petrey, Dean Orwoll, Michael Petrey and Lisa Elberhardt.

Honorary casket bearers were Chuck Massa, Rich Tyler, Connor Mullins, Richard Nelson and Michael Petrey.

Interment was in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.

Alice Norma Bush was born May 27, 1916 in Decorah, the daughter of Walter and Gena (Nelson) Wells.

She graduated from Decorah High School in 1934, and was married to Donald Bush July 4, 1939 in St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah by Father Mullins.

The couple moved to Algona, Emmettsburg and then to Calmar in 1953.

Alice Bush was a homemaker all her life.

After Donald Bush died in 1982, Alice moved to Schaumburg, Illinois to be near her son. She returned to Decorah in 1984 and had been a resident of Aase Haugen Nursing Home from March to July of last year.

Alice enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, arts and crafts, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and reading and was an avid sports fan.

She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church St. Theresa's Circle, VFW , Ladies Auxiliary and Elks Ladies Group and Silvercrest and South Winn Golf Courses.

Survivors include a son, Tom and Elaine Bush of Junction City, Wis.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a special niece, Sharon Hotchkiss of Bloomington, Minn., a longtime friend, Jeannette Gipp and three cousins and several nieces and nephews.

Alice Norma Bush was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald Bush, in 1982; four sisters, Esther McGuire, Geneva Sewell, Katherine Ruffridge and Jeanne Nelson and two brothers, Earl and Charles Wells.

Funeral services for Alice Bush of Decorah will be held today, Wednesday, May 9, at 1.1:30 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating. Interment will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. French and Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
