Theodore Ralph Schafroth

Theodore Ralph Schafroth, 80, of Decorah, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Decorah, with Rev. James Dale officiating.

Organist was Rev. Kristen Kvamme. Soloist was Ken Vande Berg. Special music included "Come, Thou Almighty King", "Thy Will Be Done" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic".

Internment was at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.

Theodore Schafroth was born Oct. 16, 1920 in Nemaha, Iowa to Henry and Ida (Reichardt) Schafroth. He was a 1940 graduate of East High School in Des Moines, a 1948 graduate of Iowa State University and received his masters degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

He farmed with his father from 1942 to 1952, when he moved to Decorah and taught science at the junior high school for 30 years.

He was a member of the Decorah Lions Club, the Elk's Club, the Masonic Lodge and the First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.

Survivors include his son, Peter (Schafroth) Mohror of West Des Moines, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Theodore Schafroth was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ed and Harold.
