PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. -- Kelly D. Mundt, 66, of Prairie du Chien, passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at United Methodist Church, Prairie du Chien, with the Rev. Stuart Allen officiating. Private family burial of the cremated remains will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa. Friends may call at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Garrity Funeral Home, Prairie du Chien, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on April 2, 1944, in Castalia, Iowa, son of Leslie and Leora (Bloxham) Mundt. He married Ruth Fry on Dec. 5, 1964, in Richland Center.
After graduating from South Winneshiek High School at the age of 16, Kelly began his training to become an X-ray and lab technician in the health care field. He started his career in Red Oak, Iowa, before moving to work at the Richland Hospital in Richland Center. He later joined the staff of the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, where he worked for over 40 years before retiring as the director of diagnostics in 2009.
In his year of retirement, Kelly enjoyed golfing, gambling and learning to fish with his grandsons. He fulfilled one of his final wishes, to be an organ donor.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Ruth, of Prairie du Chien; a son, John, and his wife, Vickie (Valley), of Prairie du Chien; a daughter, Kristin Mundt, and her husband, Michael Statz, of Portage; two brothers, Donald (Joyce), of Connecticut, and Craig (Linda), of Ossian, Iowa; his two grandsons, Liam and Aidan Statz; nieces; nephews; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and twin sister, Shelby Mundt.
