John Kimber

John Kimber, 68, of Decorah, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis., following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 29, 2000, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Bluffton, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Alan Sensor was the organist. Phyllis Hauber was the cantor. Hymns included "Here I Am Lord," "How Great Thou Art," "Prayer of St. Francis" and "On Eagle's Wings".

Casket bearers were Daryl Roney, Roger Powers, Leland Nelson, Wayne Jordahl, Ron Engelhardt and Bob Broghammer.

Burial was at the church cemetery. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

John was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Burr Oak, the son of John and Mabel (Arnold) Kimber Sr. He attended country school and worked for Winneshiek County and Nelson Brothers.

John then went to work for Roverud Construction July 14, 1967, as a driller for almost 30 years. He retired Aug. 27, 1996.

John married Vivian Linnane Feb. 16, 1953, in Hardy, Ark.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, garden, flowers, trees and yard. His favorite pastime was playing solitaire.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Kimber of Decorah; 10 children, Mike and Wendy Kimber of Waukon, Julie and Randy Bloxham of Waukon, Russ and Suzy Kimber of Owasso, Okla., Pat and Vicki Kimber of Decorah, David and Melanie Kimber of Cresco, Cathy and Roger Huinker of Ossian, Linda Blake of Decorah, Mary and Raymond Huinker of Ossian, Jeff and Debbie Kimber of Decorah, and Greg Kimber of Clermont; 29 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Irene Linnane of Decorah; two brothers, Robert and Darlene Kimber of Minneapolis, Minn., and Gail and Emogene Kimber of Hot Springs, Ark.; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Leland Nelson of Burr Oak, and Kathleen and Roger Powers of Decorah.

John Kimber was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Henry; one sister, Rose Stockman; and his father-in-law, Patrick Linnane
