Gerald John Zweibohmer

Gerald John Zweibohmer, 37, of Ossian, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., from lymphoma.

A funeral mass was held Saturday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian. Officiating were the Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes and the Rev. Vincent Simon.

Diane Stee was the organist. There was congregational singing as well as singing and guitar playing by Katie Holthaus and Krystal Lensing.

Jeff Hintz was the lector. Gift carriers were Heather Hintz, Stephanie Meyer, Melissa Zweibohmer and Shelly Zweibohmer. Servers were Robbie Uhlenhake, Daniel Stee and Amber Uhlenhake.

Casket bearers were Jeff Hintz, Andy Zweibohmer, Jason Meyer, Dave Zweibohmer, Mick Zweibohmer and Gene Uhlenhake.

Honorary bearers were Mitchel Zweibohmer, Bob Schroeder, Roger Uhlenhake, Robert Uhlenhake, Gary Halvorson and Brian Rothmeyer. The Knights of Columbus Council No. 2073 was in honorary attendance.

Interment was at St. Francis Cemetery, Ossian. The Schmitz Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Gerald was born June 28, 1962, the son of Arthur F. and Patricia M. (Lewis) Zweibohmer in Decorah. He was baptized July 8, 1962, by the Rev. T. F. Currier.

He was confirmed in his faith at St. Francis de Sales Church in Ossian by the Archbishop James Byrne April 4, 1974.

Gerald obtained his education by attending De Sales Elementary School and South Winneshiek High School at Calmar, where he graduated May 21, 1981.

On Nov. 21, 1992, Gerald was united in marriage to Judyth K. Larson at the United Church of Christ in Decorah. To their union a daughter was born.

Gerald was a lifetime member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and its Rosary Society, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2073, and a member of the Northeast Iowa Pool League.

He was employed as a machinist at Camcar-Textron Co. in Decorah. His wife and daughter were the "highlights" of his life. Playing pool and golfing were sports he enjoyed.

Survivors include his wife, Jude, and daughter, Amanda Zweibohmer of Ossian; his mother, Patricia Zweibohmer of Ossian; two brothers, Mike Zweibohmer of Decorah, and Mark and Gail Zweibohmer of Postville; and two sisters, Kathy and John Barnhart of Lisbon, and Carol and Laverne Meyer of Postville.

Also surviving are a maternal grandmother, Charlotte Lewis of Ossian; several uncles, aunts and cousins; and the following nieces and nephews: Matthew Zweibohmer, Shelly Zweibohmer, Mick Zweibohmer, Mitchel Zweibohmer, Heather Hintz, Jeff (Tamara) Hintz, Melissa Zweibohmer, Andy Zweibohmer, Stephanie Meyer, Jason Meyer, Sean Peterson and Erin Peterson.

Gerald Zweibohmer was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Zweibohmer, who died Oct. 25, 1983; paternal grandparents John and Justina Zweibohmer and maternal grandfather Raymond Lewis.
