Bernice M. "Bunny" Schroeder

Bernice M. "Bunny" Schroeder, age 81, of Decorah, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating.

Burial was at the St. Benedict Cemetery in Decorah, Iowa. The French & Balik Funeral home is handling arrangements.

Bunny was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Decorah, the daughter of Michael and Rena (Thomann) Walsh. Bunny attended St. Benedict Catholic School and then graduated from Decorah High School.

She worked in Decorah at a bakery for a few years before marrying Merlin Schroeder Jan. 9, 1947. Bunny worked as a cook at St. Benedict Catholic School for over 29 years.

She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and St. Mark's Ladies Circle. She enjoyed having coffee with her friends and her greatest love was her family.

Survivors include her husband, Merlin Schroeder of Decorah; one daughter, Kim and Larry Bohr of Decorah; one son, Greg and Theresa Schroeder of Blaine, Minn.; five grandchildren, Erica Bohr of Des Moines, Derek and Jared Bohr of Decorah, and Kelli and Aaron Schroeder of Blaine, Minn.; and one sister, Maxine and Myles Cronin of Des Moines.

Bernice Schroeder was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Katherine Johnson; two half-brothers, Ward and Harold Rima; and two half-sisters, Tress Glass and Esther Anastasia.
