Lois A. Finholt

Lois Finholt, 63, of Rochester, Minn., died Friday, April 6, 2001 at home in Rochester, Minn. after a seven year battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church, with Rev. James Glesne officiating.

Casket bearers are Kenneth Bolson, Jerry Corkery, Mark Finholt, John Gipp, Kenneth Hunter and Richard Sanderson.

Organist is Kathy Murray and soloist Elea Uhl will sing "How Great Thou Art," "The Lord's Prayer" and "On Eagle's Wings."

Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, with Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handling arrangements.

Lois A. Finholt was born September 21, 1937 in Cresco, the daughter of James and Harriett (Schmauss) Hunter.

She moved to Decorah and graduated from Decorah High School in 1955.

She married her classmate Gary Finholt and resided in Decorah until 1968, when they moved to Independence, Iowa.

Lois Finholt started a job as a nurse's aid with the State Mental Health Institute in Independence in 1969. She obtained her LPN degree in 1978 from Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo.

Lois Finholt continued as an LPN at the State Mental Health Institute until 1985, when they moved to Rochester. She was an LPN at St. Mary's Hospital, Mayo Foundation, from Feb. 1985 until illness forced retirement in 1995.

Lois Finholt was an avid bird watcher and especially enjoyed humming birds. She also liked knitting and crocheting.

Surviving Lois Finholt are her husband, Gary Finholt; six children: James and Christi Finholt of San Antonio, Texas; Craig and Kathy Finholt of Independence; Mary and James Downs of Bardstown, Ky.; Steve and Branda Finholt of Decorah; Wanda and Gerald Corkery of Marion, Iowa and Brian Finholt of Seattle, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Kenneth and Edna Hunter of Marion; two sisters, Elsie and Richard Sanderson of Waukon; Delores and Larry Klever of Independence and a stepfather, Clarence Hertges of Cresco.

Lois A Finholt was preceded in death by her father, James Hunter, and mother, Harriett Hertges.
