Arline G. Strum
Arline G. Strum, 54, of Decorah, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home.
Services will be held Friday, July 21, at 1:30 p.m., at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Steven Jacobsen officiating.
The Rev. Marion Miller will be the organist. The congregation will sing "Beautiful Savior."
Honorary bearers will be Barbara Welgos, Orene Docken, C. H. Carpenter, the Rev. Owen Gangstead, T. Arnold Thompson, Jake Enderson, the Rev. Eugene Soland and Alberta Teslow.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 20, from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Fjelstul Funeral Home, and Friday after 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church of Decorah, Shalom Lutheran Church of Alexandria, Minn., and Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home of Decorah.
Arline (Allison) Strum was born July 20, 1915, in Decorah, the daughter of Melvin and Alma (Arness) Allison. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1932. After high school, she worked as a dental assistant and at Grahams Dept. Store until marriage. She and her husband, the Rev. George C. Strum, were united in marriage at First Lutheran Church June 18, 1937, by the Rev. T. A. Hoff.
They lived in Amery, Wis., Argyle, Wis., Ettrick, Wis., Clear Lake, Story
City and Decorah.Arline was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah. She was president of the WELCA and a member of the Deaconsses. She also belonged to the Monday Club, Westside Study Club and Luther College Woman's Club.
Arline was well known for her kindness and hospitality. She enjoyed sharing her Norwegian baking and other delicious treats. She was loved by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, George; two daughters, Miriam (Fran) Odden of Milwaukee, Wis., and Karen (Robert) Bear of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Scott (Carrie) Odden of Oregon, Wis., Kari Odden and husband Bob Carey of Mount Vernon, Wash., Maren Bear of Iowa City and Rebecca Bear of Atlanta, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Kjetil Odden and Grant Carey Odden.
Arline Strum was preceded in death by her parents.
