LeRoy Henry Abegglen 1930-1999

LeRoy H. Abegglen, 69, of Decorah, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at home of complications from cancer

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Thomas Miller officiating. The family will greet friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m.

The body was cremated. The Rev. Marion Miller will be the organist. Honorary bearers will be Jack and Elaine Grimes, Merv and Mary Ellingson, Hubie and Mary Teslow, all of LeRoy's golfing buddies, his friends at Deco Products and all of his friends.

Inurnment will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

LeRoy Henry Abegglen was born July 27, 1930, in La Crosse, Wis., the son of Gottfried and Lenora (Schlicht) Abegglen.

He attended the German Lutheran School for grade school in La Crosse. He graduated from Central High School in 1948 and then attended Western Wisconsin Technical Institute.

LeRoy served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-53, where he served as a Sergeant.

He was married to Arlene N. Olson July 5, 1958, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Wis.

In La Crosse, LeRoy worked at Auto Lite as a tool and die maker from 1953-58 and at Lake Center Industries in Winona, Minn. in 1959-61. He transferred to Decorah in 1961 when the Deco Products plant opened. He worked 34 years at Deco, retiring in December of 1994.

LeRoy was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah, where he served as an usher for 34 years. He also belonged to the Elks Lodge and Silvercrest Golf & Country Club. He enjoyed playing golf and being outdoors. LeRoy will be remembered as being kind and friendly to everyone. He enjoyed making people laugh and had a good sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Decorah; one daughter, Judy Abegglen of Decorah; one son, David Abegglen of Ankeny; two sisters, Evelyn and Irvin Weier of Tulsa, Okla., and Janice Abegglen of La Crosse, Wis.; one brother-in-law, Robert Weiland of La Crosse, Wis.; and one sister-in-law, Corrine Abegglen of La Crosse, Wis.

LeRoy Abegglen was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Doris Weiland; and two brothers, Robert Abegglen and James Abegglen.
