David Lawrence Rosendahl

David Lawrence Rosendahl, 61, of Decorah, died suddenly Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Steven Jacobsen officiating.

The Rev. Marion Miller was the pianist. The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Casket bearers were his Decorah High School schoolmates Dale Lundy, Norm Mikkelson, Harry Olson, Dave Svensor, Wayne Thomas and Jerry
Thompson.

Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

David Lawrence Rosendahl was born March 22, 1938, in the rural Washington Prairie area, the son of Lawrence W. and Idella G. (Olson) Rosendahl.

He went to local schools, was a 1957 graduate of Decorah High School and attended Luther College. David was quite a successful insurance and car salesman, living for many years in Des Moines, Illinois and Texas.

He married Shirley Simmons Rockwell Oct. 1, 1989, and they spent many happy years in Mesa, Ariz., before moving to Columbia, S. C., where Shirley died Oct. 16, 1998.

David returned to Decorah in June of 1988. He enjoyed the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, taking expeditions to Canada, Alaska, the western and southwestern United States, and abroad. He enjoyed hiking the Arizona landscape, playing cards, his bingo cards, cigars and visiting with friends.

Recently, he enjoyed exploring Northeast Iowa by car, with his dog, and being with his sister, family and friends. David was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his sister, Verna and John Cronin of Decorah; his daughters, Cindy and Rod Vochatzer of Piano, Texas, Kathy and John Colasacco of Phoenix, Ariz., and Connie Willis of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by step-daughters, Rosalind and Bill Salenblat of Flushing, Mich., Stephanie and Randy Beeny of Swartz Creek, Mich., Teresa and Randy Walling of Jackson, Mich., and Rebecca and Myron Erexson of Columbia, S. C., nine step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.

David L. Rosendahl was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Leo; a nephew, Terry Cronin; and a granddaughter, Cassidy Willis.
