Dale Remke 1933-1999
Dale Joseph Remke, 66, of McGregor and formerly of Decorah, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at the Prairie du Chien Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis., following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Robert Hirsch officiating.
John Schimming was the lector. Alan Sensor was the organist. Soloist Arlene Foltz sang "On Eagle's Wings" and "Beautiful Savior."
Joan Schissel was the cantor. Hymns were "Be Not Afraid" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic."
Casket bearers were Curt Vick, Leo Nagle, Jerry Haas, Clair Steine, Darrell Vick and Terry Mooney.
Burial was at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Dale was born Jan. 14, 1933, in Decorah, the son of Raymond and Vivian (Gaul) Remke. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Benedict Catholic Church.
He attended St. Benedict Catholic School and Decorah Public Schools. Dale enlisted in the United States Army and spent six years in Germany, with a total of 11 years in the military.
While in Germany, Dale met a girl, Edith Meschke, from Ulm, Germany, and they were married Jan. 17, 1956. To this union five children were born.
Dale worked for Deco Products for 35 years, retiring in 1995. Dale and Edith lived all their lives in Decorah until recently. They moved to McGregor this past May, to be along the river.
Dale's fun time was spent with his grandchildren and heading for the Mississippi River to spend time at his trailer. He enjoyed fishing, watching the river traffic and taking care of his flowers and doing yard work in the trailer park.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Remke of McGregor; three daughters, Doris Mooney and fiance Dave Brockway of Waukon, Donna Dotzler and Ken Kerr of Waukon, and Debbie and Jim Flynn of Decorah; two sons, David and Melody Remke of Decorah, and Jerry and Cindy Remke of Ridgeway; 16
grandchildren, Holly, Alicia, Stuart, Adam, Aaron, Brian, Beth, Jason, Jill, Jamie, Nichole, Tiffany, Derek, Devian, Paige and Jeremy; three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Hailey and Kendall; two sisters, Darlyne and Donald Johnson of Decorah, and Phyllis and John Schimming of Canton, Minn.; and one brother, Dean Remke of Pomona, Calif.Dale Remke was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Vivian Remke; and grandparents Henry and Elizabeth Remke, who lived in the family home with Dale until their deaths.
