Elsie Neste

Elsie Neste, 81, of Decorah, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah after a short illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 23, at 11 a.m., at Decorah Lutheran Church, with the Revs. James Glesne and Ole Winter officiating.

Diane Kvamme was the organist.

Casket bearers were Arden Vickre, Roger Wheatman, Ronald Numedahl, Orlando Halverson, LaVem Hillesland, Mark Nelson, David Lensch, Carl
Gilbertson and Erick Flaskerud.

Honorary bearers were Elsie's friends.

Interment was at the Lutheran Cemetery. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Elsie Arlene (Wheatman) Neste was born March 17, 1918, in Calmar Township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of Almer and Emma (Vick) Wheatman. She was baptized April 14, 1918, at Union Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, and confirmed June 19, 1932, at Decorah Lutheran Church.

Elsie attended Wheatman School as well as other rural schools in Winneshiek County.

On Nov. 24, 1938, Elsie was united in marriage with Elmer Kenneth Neste at the Decorah Lutheran Church by the Rev. Ole Glesne. To this union one son was born. Elsie and Elmer farmed in Madison Township until retiring and moving to Decorah in the early 1980s.

Elsie was involved in the Sons of Norway and Willing Workers, she was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church, where she was participated in church activities and enjoyed going to circle.

Elsie spent much of her time caring for others. She also enjoyed baking.
She is remember as a sweet and kind person.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer of Decorah; one son, Dale and Betty Neste of Victorville, Calif.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen and Lyle Gilbertson of Minnewaukan, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Wheatman of Peoria, Ariz.; godchild Cathy Lensch Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.

Elsie Neste was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Alvin Wheatman.
