Ellen Rolfs

Ellen Emily Rolfs, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion of pancreatic cancer.

A funeral service for the immediate family was held at the care center. The body was cremated.

Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m.

Honorary bearers are Harold Rolfs, Terry Rolfs, Michael Rolfs, Steven Miller, Larry Offerman, Douglas Almandinger, Gary Jensen and Alan Jensen.

Evelyn Emily (Rongstad) Rolfs was born July 13, 1912, at Waterville, the daughter of Ben and Effie (Martin) Rongstad. She attended grade school and high school in Waterville.

Ellen was married to Harvey William Dec. 20, 1931, in Waukon. They moved to Decorah in 1941 and lived in the Decorah area until moving to Story City in 1959. Ellen was a former member of Decorah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons, Howard and Lavonne Rolfs of Oelwein, and
Benne and Cheryl Rolfs of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Edna Miller of Marion, Elinor and Kenneth Jensen of Ames, and Lois and James Livingston of Palo; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Ellen Rolfs was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey, who died in February of 1966; two sisters, Lydia Rongstad and Hazel Martin; two brothers, Alfred and Milton Rongstad; two half-brothers, Lawrence Brandos and Adrian Brandos; and one son-in-law, Ted Miller, who died Jan. 3, 2000.
