Paul John Barta, 85, of Fort Atkinson died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999 at his home.

A funeral mass was held Monday Sept. 27, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson with the Rev. Allen Schmitt
officiating. Music was by the St. John's parish choir.

Casket bearers were Paul's grandchildren Mike and Matt Lynch, Greg and Eileen Lynch, Steve and Laura Stallsmith, and Dawn Barta and Stu Downes.

Interment was at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in SpilIville. The Chekal Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Paul was born May 26, 1914, in Fort Atkinson, the son of John and Victoria (Kovarik) Barta. He attended St. John's Parochial Schools and graduated from Fort Atkinson High School.

On Sept. 7, 1943, he married Lauretta Schwade at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in SpilIville. To this union three children were born: Jim, Pat and Norma.

Paul farmed near Fort Atkinson and sold Moorman Feeds for many years. He played in the Fort Band for over 50 years. He moved to town in January of 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Lauretta of Fort Atkinson; one son, Jim Barta of Plainfield; two daughters, Pat and Jack Lynch of Lawler, and Norma Barta of North Liberty; grandchildren Greg and Eileen Lynch, Mike Lynch, Matt Lynch, Laura and Steve Stallsmith, and Dawn Barta and friend Stu Downes; and great grandchildren Torey, Haley and Conner Stallsmith.

Paul Barta was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Peter, Cyril, Leo and Valentine, and two sisters, Mary Kupka and Celia Barta
