Ernest Stanley Neshiem, 89, of Burr Oak, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, of pneumonia-related causes at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m., at Burr Oak Lutheran Church with the Rev. Hans Floan officiating.

Casket bearers will be his five grandchildren and one grandson-in-law. Burial will be at the Burr Oak Cemetery. The Mengis Funeral Home of Mabel, Minn., is handling arrangements. Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, from 4-8 p.m. at the Mengis Funeral Home and Friday one hour before services at the church.

Ernest was born June 28, 1910, in Lanesboro, Minn., the son of Anders "Andrew" Olson Neshiem and Christine (Nepstad) Neshiem.

He attended Lanesboro School. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Ernest was married to Hazel Olson on March 11,1941, at Decorah.

In the 1930's, Ernest worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in northern Minnesota. He worked for Langford Electric Co., the Minnesota Highway Department, an Albert Lea factory, and farmed on his own until 1951. After that time, Ernest worked for other farmers. His joys in life included his family and music. He usually played the accordion, but also enjoyed singing.

Survivors include three children, Marlene McCabe of rural Burr Oak, Robert and Delores Neshiem of rural Mazeppa, Minn., and Wayne Neshiem of Burr Oak.

There are five grandchildren, DeAnn and James Komisar of Spring Valley, Minn., Doreen Neshiem of Minneapolis, Charaye McCabe of Minneapolis, John Neshiem of St. Paul, and Jason Neshiem of Mazeppa, Minn.

Survivors also include two great-granddaughters, Kammie and Melissa Komisar; two half-sisters, Ella Terry of Pioneer, Calif., and Gladys Roraus of Sebastopol, Calif.; and three sisters-in-law, Muriel Neshiem of St. Paul, Darlene Hatleli of Portland, Ore., and Doris Hatleli of Coarsegold, Calif.

Ernest Neshiem was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, who died July 2, 1977; one brother, Otto; two half-brothers, Lester and Neil Hatleli; two sisters, Mabel Thompson and Ida Neshiem; one half-sister, Ida Peterson; two step-sisters, Olia Olson and Clara Nelson; and Ernest's father in 1913 and his mother in 1963.
