Harry Haugland, 73, of Canton, Minn., died Saturday, May 22, 1999, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel, Minn., following an illness with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, at 11 a.m., at the Henrytown Lutheran Church of rural Canton, Minn., with the Rev. Audree Catalano officiating.

Visitation will be held at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, Minn., Wednesday, May 26, from 6-8 p.m. The casket will not be open.

The interment of cremains will be held at a later date at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.

Harry, best known as "Bud", was born Nov. 13, 1925, at Crosby, N. D, the son of Engebret and Thea (Gilbert) Haugland. He was the youngest of six children.

He attended school in North Dakota and as a young man came to the area to live with his sister, Lillian. Here he met and married Patricia Kimber at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church Nov. 14, 1947.

They farmed for a period of time in North Dakota and then returned to farm south of Burr Oak in the early 1960s.

Pat and Bud then moved to Cresco and they operated the Wheel Inn Cafe, while Bud also worked for Kratz Motors.

Bud worked for a short time for HECO and then they moved to Canton, Minn., in the early 1970s. Bud became head custodian for the Canton School. He retired in 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of Canton, Minn.; one son, Jerry "Red" Haugland of Thornton; one daughter, Sheri and Bob Erickson of Waukon; four granddaughters, Mia and Tisha Haugland, and Heather and Hillary Erickson; four sisters, Mildred Anderson and Frieda (Jules) Halverson, both of Crosby, N. D., Irene Gunlock of Devils Lake, N. D., and Lillian and Dean Smith of Burr Oak; along with nephews, nieces and a host of friends.

Bud Haugland was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jordan; and three grandchildren.
