Larson, Delores Mae (Martins) -- 1921 - 1996

Delores Mae Larson, 75, of Ossian died at the Ossian Senior Hospice on Sunday evening, August 11, 1996, following a lingering illness.

Delores was born February 17, 1921, a daughter of Leska and Alta (Brandtman) Martins near Luana. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana. She attended Grand Meadows Township country grade school and was graduated from Postville High School.

August 29, 1942, she married Harry Gerald Larson, in the St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana. They farmed first near Postville and in 1944 they moved to the Larson farm south of Ossian. The couple became the parents of three children.

She was a member of Ossian Lutheran Church were she served on Ladies' Aid Committees and was a Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include one son, David (Judy) Larson of Ossian, two daughters, Sharon (Duane) Riha of Cedar Falls, and Karen McNeil of Festina, and 11 grandchildren: David, Kyle and Denise Larson, Lori, Lisa and Leanne Riha, Christel, Travis, Jill, Todd and Troy McNeil. Also surviving are two sisters: Della Cowell of Luana and Darlene Nuehring of Postville; and four brothers: Delbert Martins of Postville, Donald Martins of Fairbank, Delos Martins of Monona and Duane Martins of Luana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, on October 10, 1965; her parents and one brother in infancy, Delmar Martins.

Casket bearers were David Larson Jr., Christel McNeil, Alan Martins, Daniel Martins, Douglas Martins, Lori Riha, Joyce Nuehring, Dennis Martins, Diane M. Cowell and Lonnie Martins. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery in Ossian. Schmitz Funeral Home of Ossian was in charge of arrangements.
