Letchford, Rufus Glenn -- 1891 - 1961

Rufus Glenn Letchford, son of Thomas and Emma Cressy Letchford, was born November 4, 1891 in Frankville township where he spent his entire life. He received his education in the McKay and the Frankville public schools.

On November 15, 1915 he was united in marriage with Ruth Evert of Strawberry Point and the new home was established in the vicinity of Frankville. In December, 1923 they moved to Frankville, having purchased the Blacksmith and Repair shop which he operated until his sudden death Friday, January 6, 1961.

To this marriage three children were born: Vivian, Mrs. Lester VanWey; Charles of Frankville and Virgean, Mrs. H. L. Sanderson of El Paso, Texas.

He joined the Frankville Community church on November 2, 1924 and served as sexton for its cemetery for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Waters; one brother, Vern Letchford of Waukon. He is survived by his three children; seven grandchildren, a sister, Leora Ambrose; and a number of nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Frankville Community church with the Rev. Evert McFarland of Oelwein officiating. Interment was made in the Frankville cemetery. The Rev. Reynolds assisted with the services.

Sanderson and family of El Paso, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Shippy of Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Pete McIntosh and family of Anamosa; Mrs. Ruby McFarland of Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knight and Mrs. Stella Wiltse of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Roy Dunsmore of Independence; Mrs. Clarence Evert of Lamont; Mr. and Mrs. Kelse Webster of Austin, Minnesota; Thomas Webster and Mrs. Harriet Letchford and Virginia of Waukon; Charles VanWey of Minneapolis.
