Cathyrn "Kate" Ruth Doubek Johnson, 65, Elgin, Iowa, died Monday, January 4, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin, following a brief illness. Kate was born on January 15, 1944, in Postville, Iowa, to Clarence and Arlene (Quam) Doubek. She attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, Ossian, Iowa, and Postville High School, Postville, Iowa.

Kate was united in marriage to Duane E. Harms on May 21, 1962, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Kate was a CNA and worked in the healthcare field for many years. She delivered babies at the Baptist Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, for over 20 years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her four sons, Curtis Harms, Phoenix, AZ, Clayton (Tami) Harms, Postville, Craig Harms, Wichita, KS, Chad (Denise) Harms, Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren, Michelle, Curtis Lee, Joseph, Jillian, Monte, Samantha, Joshua, Tori, Scott, Angeline; two great-grandchildren; twelve brothers and sisters, Betty Schott, Camp Verde, AZ, Norma (Ernie) Tadlock, Camp Verde, AZ, Clarice (Leslie) Upton, Plainview, MN , Becky Voss (friend, Susan Scheffert), AZ, Teresa Louck, Dubuque, Janice (Kevin) Brainard, Monona, Esther (David) Merrill, Perry, Sharon (Reed) Stevenson, Cresco, Shirley (Leo) Durnan, Elgin, Clarence (Nancy) Doubek Jr., Kingsport, TN, Joseph Doubek, Fredericksburg, and Robert Doubek, Elgin, Iowa.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane E. Harms in August 1993; three children, Cletus, Melissa and Tracy; one grandson, Dylan and one sister, Anna Fox.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa, who are in charge of the arrangements. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010, from 4-8 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa.
