Errol E. Felke, son of Louis and Ida (Youmans) Felke, was born December 14, 1914 on the family farm in Frankville Township. He died April 11, 1996 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa. He was 81 years old.
Errol attended elementary school in Frankville and graduated from Decorah High School in 1933. He was married to Ethel Arness on June 23, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union three children were born.
He farmed his entire life on the family farm. He also worked part-time at Thornton's Feed & Grain, Ingvoldstad's Lumber & Coal Yard and also a Watkins salesman. He played several instruments, including the piano, trumpet, accordion and in later years, the violin. He played in the Ossian City Band and with the Washington Prairie Lutheran Brotherhood. He moved to Decorah in 1986. He had been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home since December 1, 1994.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Norman Raymond, who died at birth in 1962. He is survived by two sons, Nanferd (Judy) Felke of Waukon, Leon (Sandy) Felke of Decorah, and a daughter, Kathleen (Michael) Riley of Decorah. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Shelley (Kevin) Patten and her children Kalob and Kaisha of Waukon, Kimberly Felke of Decorah, Keri Felke of Decorah and Diane Riley of Decorah; four step-grandchildren, Paulette Heying of Minneapolis, Minn., Scott Swehla of Waterville, Tanya Leas of Minneapolis, Minn., Paul Swehla of Decorah; five step-great-grandchildren, Travis Leas, Nathan Leas, Akaesha Chilcote, Tyler Heying and Jamie Wicks.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, 1996 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church with Rev. Kim W. Smith officiating. Pallbearers were Robert Usgaard, Rudolph Remmen, Kenneth Meyer, Nanferd Meyer, Wayne Wangsness, Neil Wangsness, Keeley Meyer, Kevin Patten, Mike Sims and Toby Einck. Burial was in Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, rural Decorah.
