Fadness, Elmer Julian -- 1903 - 1966

Elmer Julian Fadness, the son of Nels Hendrick and Ingeborg (Exey) Fadness, was born October 11, 1903, in Pleasant township in Winneshiek county. He was baptized in Big Canoe Lutheran Church in the same year. He was confirmed on June 21, 1917, at Big Canoe Lutheran Church.

He was married to Ethel Jeanette Yarwood on April 29, 1934, at Decorah Lutheran Church, Decorah. To this union were born three sons, Robert of Elkader, James of Rochester, Minnesota, and Richard, at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, one in infancy, Henry, Eric and Clarence; five sisters, one in infancy, Ida, Amanda (Mrs. Oscar Severeid, Anna (Mrs. Clarence Tillapaugh), and Tillie (Mrs. Ole Severeid).

He is survived by his wife; three sons; two brothers, Louis and Neilie of the State Soldiers Home in Marshalltown; one sister, Selma (Mrs. Carl Sanderson) of Sycamore, Illinois; and two grandchildren, Dawn Marie and Yvonne Annette Fadness, and many other relatives and friends.

He farmed in Pleasant and Calmar townships until 1947, when he bought a farm in Allamakee county. He joined St. Paul Lutheran Church at that time and has been a member with his family.

He died suddenly at home on January 24, 1966, at the age of 62 years, three months and 13 days.

Funeral services were held in St. Paul Lutheran Church Wednesday, January 26, with burial in the Postville Cemetery.
