Morris Duane Nesteby

Funeral services were conducted January 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Sworak Mortuary Chapel, Omaha, Nebraska for Morris D. Nesteby who died January 22 at the Veterans Hospital at Omaha. He had been seriously ill the past year. The Rev. Howard Tollefsrud officiated. Military rites were conducted at graveside by personnel from Offutt Air Base. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Omaha.

Morris Duane Nesteby, the son of Albert and Amanda Anderson Nesteby, was born November 9, 1926 at Castalia, Iowa. He was baptized at Castalia and confirmed into St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville.

He qualified for enlistment in the reserve corps of the Army Air Force while a senior in high school. He graduated in the class of 1944 and when old enough entered the air force for training at Amarillo, Texas. He served in the Air Force in World War II in Germany.

Upon returning from the service he was employed by the R.E.A. for a time. In 1951 he re-entered the Air Force and made it his career. For a number of years he was stationed at Offutt Air Base, Omaha, Nebraska; also at two air bases in California, Italy, Spain, Africa, served from October 1967-1968 in Vietnam, then in England. He retired in August, 1970.

Preceding him in death was his father Albert Nesteby on December 29, 1972. Survivors include his wife Ann, a step-daughter Patricia; his mother Mrs. Amanda Hillygus, a resident of the Eastern Star Home, Decorah; his stepmother Mrs. Hazel Nesteby, Decorah, a brother Arthur Nesteby of Waterloo; a sister Mrs. Paul (Iona) Welzel of Postville; a stepbrother, Donald Nesteby, Decorah; two stepsisters, Mrs. Roger (Darlene) Vick, Caledonia, Minnesota, Mrs. Dale (Virginia) Halvorsen, Decorah and many other relatives.
